The 30-second version
about a quarter of Math questions have no choices — you type the number. Entry rules: fractions or decimals both fine (7/2 or 3.5), don't round harshly (fill the field: 0.6667 not 0.67 for 2/3), negatives allowed, and never enter mixed numbers (3 1/2 reads as 31/2 — write 7/2). Strategy for everything else: estimate first, backsolve from choices when the algebra is slow, and budget about 95 seconds per question.
Ten seconds of "the answer should be a bit over 50" catches sign errors, dropped digits, and mis-typed Desmos entries. If your computed answer fights your estimate, believe the estimate and recheck.
Choices are information. For "which value of x satisfies…", plug the middle-sized choice into the original equation: too big → go smaller. Two tests usually finish it, and it sidesteps algebra you might fumble. Same idea for "which system describes…" — test the given point against each system.
Clean one-step algebra → head. Messy equation or graph question → Desmos. Word problem → translate first (no tool skips the setup). Committing to one tool for the whole section is how time disappears.
35 minutes for 22 questions per module. Early questions are quicker; hard ones cluster late. Bank time up front, flag anything past two minutes, and reserve the last minute for a flag sweep. A blank scores zero, a guess might not — fill everything.
Your work gives x = 3½ on an SPR question. What should you type?
Mixed numbers are misread — "3 1/2" becomes 31/2. Convert: 7/2, or type 3.5. And never "round to be safe": 3.49 is simply a different (wrong) number.
