Privacy, in plain language

Last reviewed 2026-07. The exact data-retention periods below are marked for review with an adult advisor before they're treated as final policy.

Using the site without an account (the default)

No account is required for anything educational — every guide, lesson, and resource is open. The study planner, error log, saved resources, checklist, and Free Guide progress in My Study and TFG are stored in your own browser (using local storage). In guest mode they are never uploaded to us — we can't see them, and clearing your browser data removes them. You can export or delete everything yourself from the Settings section in My Study.

If you create an optional account

A free account exists for exactly one reason: keeping that same study data in sync across your devices. If you create one, here is the complete list of what is stored with our accounts provider:

• Your email and password — handled by the authentication provider; we never see or store your password, only its secure form.
• An optional display name — whatever you choose; a first name or nickname is plenty.
• Your study data — the same plan, error log, saved resources, checklist, guide progress, and optional study preferences (test date, current/target score, focus area) that My Study already keeps, plus the timestamps needed to sync it.

What an account never collects: legal name, date of birth, home address, school, phone number, parent information, household income, or anything about identity or finances. Accounts don't unlock content, and account study data is private to you — it is not shared with tutors or anyone else. You can export your data any time, delete your synced data yourself from the account page, and have the account itself deleted on request, promptly and without questions.

Question Bank practice data

When you answer questions in the Question Bank, your attempts are recorded so the site can show you your own statistics: which questions you answered, whether you were right, and how long you actively spent (timing pauses when the tab is in the background, so an open tab doesn't distort your averages). This history powers your accuracy by skill, your missed-question review, bookmarks, and weak-skill suggestions.

• Practice history lives in the same private on-device store as everything else. As a guest it never leaves your browser; with an account it syncs only to your own protected row, exactly like your other study data.
• It is study data, not advertising data — it is never sold, never shared, and never used to profile you for anything except the statistics you see yourself.
• Deleting your study data (from My Study settings, or your synced data from the account page) deletes your practice history with it. Export includes it too.
• "Report a problem" on a question stores the question's ID and your chosen reason with your own data so flawed questions can be fixed — it contains nothing about you beyond that.

Official Question Tracker logs

The Official Question Tracker is a place to record work you did in College Board's own Student Question Bank. It stores only what you type: section, domain, difficulty, whether you got it right, minutes, a mistake tag, an optional official question ID, and an optional free-text note. It never stores the official question itself — no stem, no answer choices, no explanation, no passage, no screenshot — because that content is College Board's, not ours.

• These logs live in the same private on-device store as your practice history. As a guest they never leave your browser; with an account they sync only to your own protected row.
• Your note field syncs too. If you are signed in, anything you type in a note is uploaded with the rest of your study data, so treat it as you would any other synced note — don't put anything there you would not want stored on your account.
• Tracker entries are marked as self-reported throughout the product, because we cannot verify an answer we never saw.
• They are included in export and removed by deletion, exactly like everything else.

Vocab study data

The Vocab tools work the same way as practice. Flashcard results (which words you marked "got it" or "study again"), your per-word learning state (New → Learning → Familiar → Strong), starred words, study sessions, and your Daily Match times are all stored. They are stored so you can see your own progress and get sensible review suggestions.

• As a guest, all of it stays in your browser. With an account, it syncs only to your own protected row — the same single row as the rest of your study data, under the same access rules.
• Word-learning state is used for one thing: choosing which cards to show you next. There is no advertising, no profiling, and no sharing.
• Deleting your study data deletes your vocab history with it.

The Daily Match leaderboard

The Daily Vocab Match has an optional public leaderboard. Here is exactly how it works:

• Participation is opt-in. Playing the game never puts you on the leaderboard. Signed-in students get one ranked attempt a day, and a ranked time becomes publicly visible only after you choose a public handle.
• Only your handle and time are ever shown — never your email, legal name, school, age, or location. Handles are checked for length, characters, and abusive content. Please don't use your full real name as a handle; we say this in the product too.
• Guests can always play. Guest times stay on the device and never appear publicly.
• Leaving: deleting your account removes your ranked attempts and your handle, which removes you from all future leaderboard views. You can also just stop using a handle — nothing new is published without a ranked run.
• Ranked timing is computed on the server from when your run starts and ends (plus penalties), which is an integrity measure, not surveillance — it exists so times can't be faked.

The feedback box

The Feedback button in the corner sends us exactly what you type, the kind of feedback you picked, and which page you were on — nothing else. If you're signed in, your account id comes along so we can follow up on sync problems; as a guest it's anonymous. Please don't include personal information in the message itself. Feedback goes only to the Mass Tutoring team and is deleted once handled.

Browsing the site

There are no advertising or third-party tracking scripts, and we don't build profiles of visitors. If we ever add privacy-conscious, aggregate analytics, we'll describe it here first and it will never identify individual students.

When you request tutoring

A tutoring request is a form (currently a Google Form). We ask only for what we need to match you well:

• What we collect: your name or preferred name, a contact method (usually email), grade, planned SAT date, current/target scores (optional), the subjects you want help with, availability, and a short note about what you need.
• What we do not ask: household income, tax documents, home address, Social Security number, medical history, immigration status, or proof that you "deserve" help.
• Why: solely to understand your needs, contact you, and match you with an appropriate tutor.
• Who can see it: only the small volunteer coordination team. Tutors see only what they need to run your sessions. We never sell or share your information.

Educator referrals

The referral form opens an email to us with only what the adult types in. We use it to follow up about the referral and nothing else.

How long we keep information

We keep tutoring-request information only as long as needed to provide and coordinate tutoring, then remove it. Precise retention periods are being finalized with an adult advisor; until then, you can have your information deleted at any time on request.

Deleting your information

Email masstutoringea@gmail.com and ask us to delete your request or contact details, and we will. For My Study, use "Clear my data" in Settings — that removes it from your device immediately. If you use an optional account, the account page lets you delete your synced study data, and emailing us deletes the account itself.

Aggregated reporting

If we ever publish impact figures, they will be counts and summaries only (for example, "sessions completed this term"), never anything that identifies a student, and each will state what it means and where it came from. See how we measure impact.
