Practical consequence: if your algebra is shaky, fix that first — it's the biggest slice of the test and the foundation for Advanced Math. Exact proportions are set by College Board; treat the shares above as a guide (last reviewed July 15, 2026).

How to study Math (the loop that works)

  1. Diagnose

    From your last practice test, list every Math question you missed and its topic.

  2. Learn the concept

    Watch a focused lesson on that one topic (channels below), or work through the matching Khan Academy unit. Take notes on the method, not just the answer.

  3. Drill official questions on just that skill

    Build a filtered set in the official Question Bank — same domain, same skill, medium then hard.

  4. Log every miss

    Content gap? Misread? Careless arithmetic? Desmos-entry error? The category tells you what to do next — see the error log guide.

Don't forget Desmos. Many Math questions can be solved faster (or checked instantly) with the built-in calculator. Once your fundamentals are stable, spend a session or two on our Desmos guide — it's the highest-leverage digital-SAT-specific skill.

Common SAT Math mistakes

  • Answering the wrong question — solving for x when the question asks for 2x + 1. Re-read the final sentence before answering.
  • Sign and distribution slips — especially with negatives across parentheses. Slow down on the algebra you think is easy.
  • Over-relying on Desmos — some problems are faster by hand; graphing everything wastes time. Learn when Desmos wins.
  • Skipping the setup on word problems — define variables and write the equation before computing anything.
  • Burning time on one hard question — flag it, guess if needed, come back. Every question is worth the same point.
