A quick, honest overview — what the SAT is, what we offer for free, and how to help.

What the SAT is

The SAT is a standardized college-admissions test, now taken digitally. It's one factor some colleges consider — not a measure of your student's worth or intelligence, and it's improvable with practice.

Does every college require it?

No. Policies vary and change — many colleges are test-optional, and some require or recommend it. Always confirm each college's current policy on that college's official website. We link to authoritative sources rather than giving admissions advice.

What Mass Tutoring provides — free

  • A free SAT guide of trusted, verified resources organized by what a student needs.
  • A private, on-device study planner — no account, nothing uploaded.
  • Free one-on-one tutoring from trained student volunteers when a student wants individual help.

Everything is genuinely free. We never ask for payment information, and we never ask about your family's finances.

How tutoring works

A student requests tutoring, we reply by email (usually within a week), and we match them with a trained student tutor for one-on-one video sessions. Sessions run on approved platforms with documented times — see our safeguarding page. We encourage you to know your student is using the program, and you're welcome to be involved or to contact us with questions.

What information we collect

Only what's needed to match a student with a tutor: name, a contact method, grade, test date, subjects, and availability. We don't collect income, addresses, or documents. Full detail is on the privacy page, and you can ask us to delete anything at any time.

How you can help

  • Help your student pick a realistic test date and start a few months out.
  • Protect a little regular study time and a quiet space.
  • Encourage review of mistakes over cramming — our diagnose guide shows how.
